Bulk Road Salt
Bulk road salt is by far our most popular bulk salt product. Road salt or “rock salt” is a great product and melts down to about 25 degrees F. Below that temperature heat needs to be applied, such as traffic running on top of the salted road for it to be affective. If the temperatures look to be much below 25 degrees then there are other products available with additives that lower the melting properties to negative 30 degrees F.
Bulk Road Morton Solar Salt
Description
- It is treated with yellow prussiate of soda (YPS) to impart long term protection against caking and freezing.
- Morton Bulk Safe-T-Salt (Solar) is solar-evaporated salt produced naturally from near-saturated brine. It is impounded in open, shallow ponds where salt crystallizes through slow evaporation by absorption of solar heat and strong wind circulation.

Bulk Road Salt with Additive
When the temperatures are going to consistently be below 25 degrees F an alternative road salt product with additives can be utilized to be more effective. Some of these additives help lower the melting point down to negative 30 degrees F, and also have some additional properties that help it stick better to roadways during application.
This is a popular product when surfaces are frozen, temperatures are low and straight salt is ineffective and when we are getting frozen precipitation. Because of the molasses additive, this material allows the operator to use less because the treated salt can stick to the road and have more immediate contact with traffic, (heat from tires), and brine faster- therefore more enviro friendly. The additive also adds a layer of “stickiness” that helps the salt stick to the road when straight sale tends to bounce when applied whereby some of the product winds off the side of the road.
Bulk Treated Salt w/Magic Minus Zero® Liquid
Description
Bulk Salt mixed with Magic-O liquid, which prevents salts from re-freezing and creates a residual effect that burns ice longer and more efficiently.

Bulk Road Salt with Sand
In Northern New England road salt with sand is commonly used in areas with dirt, or partially dirt roads as the addition of sand not only adds traction, but it also adds to the road base. The only real drawback is that sanded roads sometimes needs additional road cleaning in the spring after a long winter of salting and sanding.
